If you decide to go with an analog dab layout, you will need a dab torch to complete the setup. Dab torches are alternatively known as butane torches or scorch torches. Whatever you call them, they’re the heat source that creates a successful dabbing experience.
Higher Temperatures
Concentrates need more heat for vaporization than oils or flowers. A butane torch is crucial because it offers more heat than a standard lighter. Dabbing normally happens in a temperature range between 315F and 600F.
More Than Just Lighters
Dab torches are very similar to lighters but much more. They’re bigger and burn at higher temperatures, making them effective heat sources for concentrates.
Different Colors of Flame
Your dab torch should have a blue flame coming out, indicating a higher temperature than you would get from a yellow flame. You still operate it much like a lighter, however. A switch or button triggers the flame, making this handheld device easy to travel with and care for.
Various Fuel Sources
Your next dab torch might use propane or butane for its flame. Propane can reach 2100F, but butane typically caps out at 1500F. Hotter temperatures might get your tip to where you want it faster, but lower temperatures can make your concentration last longer.
Different Designs
Nearly every dab torch is handheld. Consider where you’ll use this device the most, as you might prefer something that easily fits into a bag or pocket. Ergonomics also matter if you want something comfortable to hold.
